Our Podiatrists/Chiropodists are specifically trained in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the lower limb. They are trained to alleviate, prevent and correct these disorders and provide general foot care advice for people of all ages. A podiatry/ chiropody treatment can include the cutting of toenails, the removal of an in-grown toenail, calluses, corns and treatment for foot ailments such as verrucae (plantar warts), athlete’s foot, foot odour and dry and/or cracked heels.
Our Chiropodists are trained in biomechanics, which is the study of posture and walking. We offer Biomechanical Assessments (analysing a person’s walk or run and correcting by prescribing, producing and fitting orthotics/insoles) to advise on flat feet, heel pain, knee pain, bunions, and general problems. We can offer prescribed orthotics and also prefabricated orthotics. This can be a one-off appointment whereby the assessment takes place, then depending on which orthotics are chosen you can either be given the orthotics that day (if having the prefabricated orthotics) or if having the casted orthotics this can be done in the same appointment and you will need to come back to get them fitted once they have been made. What to expect from a Biomechanical Assessment: The Podiatrist will assess the range of motion of joints, assess stance phase, then dynamic phase. Treatment options will be discussed. Please bring shorts to the appointment. Conditions we can help with orthotics:
We also offer Nail Surgery, which is minor surgery using local anaesthesia for ingrown or ingrowing nails. When there is a persistent problem with a nail that ingrows into the skin, the option of nail surgery is favourable to fix the issue for the long term. (It is suitable also for the patient to have routine treatment every 6-8 weeks for a chronic long-term nail problem if they prefer). If left untreated then the problem can lead to repeated infections, persistent pain and will make walking uncomfortable. We offer evening and weekend appointments to suit your schedule. All our Podiatrists are able to deliver the latest in chiropody and podiatric treatments. All our Podiatrists are members of the Health and Care Professions Council and the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, and are continually updating their continuous professional development. We also offer home visits and Care Home Services.
